Don’t walk. Now you can fly!

Your nephew might have one–a remote controlled hovercraft that flies just over your head, looking for all the world like a UFO, something between a toy and cutting edge technology. Drones are fun, but they’re also serious business.

​Drones can perform a lot of useful operations. They can take spray crops, carry loads, and follow complex directions but–and don’t tell your nephew–they are much more than toys. Essentially, they’re flying computers, an aircraft without pilot, crew, or passengers, and they work hard for a living. 

In the construction industry, a drone can walk a hardscape, calculating a topo in minutes for an area that usually takes a man hours. They not only reduce the amount of time spent on the site, but also the amount of time spent back at the office processing the collected data. You’ll reduce your safety risk, especially near busy roads and highways because the field technician no longer needs to walk or drive an ATV across the entire site. And the results are not only faster and more accurate, but greater in number. Instead of getting thousands of individual shots from a manual topo, you receive millions of data points from the same sized survey with drone photogrammetry, typically with  +/- .10 accuracy.  When we’re done, clients receive an aerial view of the site, CAD contours, and a CAD surface, providing data from Construction, Highway, Quarry, and Waste Management industries.

Go figure. In an industry where we already get to play around with some of the coolest toys on earth, here comes another one. Next time, when you see a drone, look up and smile. It might look just like a toy today, but tomorrow it will make your work easier and better.
